Positivity fuels resilience while living with ALS

WILBRAHAM — When Linda Bennett was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, in 2007 she took some time to grieve before telling her husband, “I’m going to fight this.” That’s the stubborn part. Seventeen and a half years later, she is still fighting. She is perhaps the longest female survivor of the disease in the state.

But her story starts even before that. In 2004 when Bennett was 59 years old, she received a heart-breaking diagnosis from her doctor. She had stage 4 colon cancer. But she kept her optimism and after nearly four years of chemotherapy and treatment she was finally able to hear her doctor say she was cancer-free.
