Patriots elevate linebacker for Sunday’s game with New York Jets

The Patriots elevated linebacker Ochuan Mathis to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game with the New York Jets.

It’s the second week-in-a row that Mathis has gotten the bump up from the practice squad. It also marks the third time he’s been elevated this year. Should the Patriots want to elevate Mathis again, they would have to sign him to the active roster.

The Patriots, losers of six straight game, are especially thin at the linebacker position with Ja’Whaun Bentley on IR, and both Raekwon McMillan (back) and Sione Takitaki (knee) listed as questionable for the game.

In all, the team lists nine players as questionable for the Jets game. Many of them are from the defensive side with Kyle Dugger, Jonathan Jones and Daniel Ekuale also on the list.

Mathis has played against Miami and Jacksonville. He contributed on special teams in both games, while also being utilized on defense against the Jaguars in London.

He registered one tackle in the game.

The Patriots have been vulnerable against the run of late. The Jaguars, at one point ripping off 17 straight run plays, had 171 rushing yards. The previous two weeks, the Texans (192 yards) and Dolphins (193) also pounded the rock effectively against the Patriots.
