Nicole Kidman recalls unforgettable bizarre scene from ‘Dogville’

Nicole Kidman recalled her strange experience filming the 2003 Lars von Trier movie Dogville in a recent interview.

The Australian actress, 57, shared that as per the director’s instruction she had to wear a dog collar at one point in the film which got quite dangerous, in conversation with British GQ Magazine.

The Big Little Lies star said of the bizarre scene, “There’s the moment when they put this dog collar on me that was sort of a metal collar. And then we were filming and, I mean, it was so heavy and hard to get off.”

Kidman pretended to choke as she put her hand on her neck, and continued, “I remember it being on and going, And Lars thought I’m acting. And actually I’m like….”

“So then when he cut,” she remembered, “I’m like, ‘Get it off! Get it off me!’ I’ll never forget that.”

While reflecting on the film, the Oscar-winning actress said of the director, “Lars was Lars, and I was, like, terrified of him and drawn to him, it was bizarre.”

Kidman revealed that it was due to the “bizarre” nature of his work that she “desperately wanted to work with” von Trier.

Although everyone around her was sceptical about the experimental project, she shared, “We talked on the phone. I read Dogville; everyone was like, ‘What the hell?’ And he sent me kind of these photos of what it was gonna look like, and it was just the tape on the floor. I was like, ‘I love this. Perfect.”

Kidman shared that the cast were all sharing a guest house with von Trier and the filming process was “dangerous and weird as well.”

Her latest movie Babygirl is set to hit theatres on December 25th.
