Not so long ago, Killian Hayes was considered to be a can’t-miss NBA prospect.

Though his offense needed some polishing, he came with experience gained overseas and looked like a solid playmaker.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case thus far.

Injuries and subpar play have gotten in the way of his career, and that reportedly has happened again.

“The Brooklyn Nets are waiving former No. 7 pick Killian Hayes, sources tell ESPN. Hayes will continue to rehab a hip injury and pursue an NBA deal with Nets’ Long Island G League affiliate,” insider Shams Charania wrote on X.

The Nets signed Hayes shortly after he was waived by the Detroit Pistons, who selected him in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Hayes failed to make an appearance in any of Brooklyn’s four games this preseason due to the injury, and head coach Jordi Fernandez claimed that they didn’t want to rush him or force him back on the floor until he was 100 percent.

That means the Nets could still have a spot on their roster for him once he’s ready to go and works his way up from the G League.

In four seasons with the Pistons, he averaged 8.1 points and 5.2 assists per game on 38.2 percent shooting from the floor in 210 appearances.

Though those numbers might not be encouraging, at 23 years old there’s still a chance he could turn the tables and become a serviceable NBA player.
