Naked man arrested in Mass. after armed bank robbery, reports say

A man who witnesses said was naked was detained by police after a bank in Braintree was robbed at gunpoint.

The incident began Friday morning when an employee from Eastern Bank on Granite Street reported a robbery to Braintree Police, according to a press release from the police department.

Several patrol and detective units responded to the scene, where they were told the suspect had run across the street into the woods near 639 Granite St.

Police said Braintree High School, which is down the street, was placed on lockdown during the search as a precaution. A perimeter was established with the assistance of K9 and air resources.

Maria Bonfiglioli, a witness, told WCVB she saw a nude man outside her home during this time.

“My dog started to bark,” she told the news outlet. “I look out my front window, there was a man just completely naked outside my front door.”

Before 11 a.m., a Braintree officer took the suspect into custody after he exited the woodline on West Street, the release said.

At the scene, WCVB reported they saw a naked man lying on the road with a yellow sheet.

The suspect was taken into custody and will likely face charges, police said.

“We would like to thank the neighborhood and witnesses not only for their understanding but their diligence in helping the police in the investigation,” the Braintree Police Department said in the statement. “As always, we appreciate the assistance of our community members.”

The identity of the person had not been released as of 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 26. The investigation remains ongoing.
