Kieran Culkin has shared how his Emmy-winning role in Succession has helped him to keep the memory of his late sister, Dakota “Cody” Culkin, alive.
In a candid interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the actor, who portrays Roman Roy in Jesse Armstrong’s critically acclaimed HBO series, opened up about how playing his character led him to reconnect with his sister’s spirit.
“After a couple of seasons on Succession, I realised there were things Roman did that reminded me of my sister,” Kieran, 42, explained. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s her sense of humour.’ She had this ability to find exactly the right thing to make fun of you, something that would get under your skin but also be so funny that it would make everyone laugh. That was her.”
While the A Real Pain star spoke about how unintentionally his character resonated with his sister’s personality, he also reflected on the loss of Dakota more than a decade after her tragic death.
“To lose one [sibling] was losing a big piece of myself. Losing one of my favourite people in the world it doesn’t get easier. But you get used to it,” he shared emotionally.
For the inversed, Dakota was tragically killed in December 2008, at the age of 29, when she was struck by a car while crossing Lincoln Boulevard in Marina del Rey, California, as reported by ABC News.
