The defending NBA champion Boston Celtics are already off and running to get their title defense underway during the 2024-25 season, with Jayson Tatum and company making easy work of the new-look New York Knicks in the opener.

Although the Celtics tied the NBA record for made 3-pointers in a game with 29 against the Knicks, Tatum was the real standout as the superstar forward lit up New York for a game-high 37 points and 10 assists while also draining eight of the 3-pointers.

Tatum recently was asked what NBA rule he would change if he could and gave an answer that affects him personally.

“I would take technical fouls out of the game. I get a lot of techs,” Tatum said, via Daniel Donabedian of ClutchPoints.

Although NBA commissioner Adam Silver and the decision-makers will never eliminate technical fouls in order to maintain some order on the basketball floor, Tatum likely isn’t alone in his sentiment for wanting to get rid of them.

With Tatum admitting that technical fouls are a problem for him, it’ll be interesting to see if he makes a point of avoiding them over the course of the 2024-25 campaign as the Celtics attempt to win back-to-back titles.
