Jaylen Brown leaves competitive legacy on ‘Hot Ones’ after no-water interview

Jaylen Brown’s lips were burning. His nose was running. His butt got kicked at one point. But the Boston Celtics star did not take a single sip of water or milk during his appearance on “Hot Ones.”

With the 2024-25 season on the horizon, Brown appeared on the popular YouTube interview show where guests eat a series of spicy chicken wings with host Sean Evans.

“When I leave, when other people come back up here, you’ve got to tell him Jaylen ate all the wings – actually double bit one– didn’t drink no water the whole time, and he made it out of here alive,” Brown said.

“Your legacy, it’ll live on long after you leave this room today,” Evans responded.

Evans asked Brown 10 questions while the two ate progressively hotter wings, with topics ranging from the Celtics’ drawing inspiration from “Killer Whales,” Brown’s favorite philosophers and the All-Star’s love of chess.

Brown’s interview started with the Hot Ones-branded Classic hot sauce, which clocked in at a Scoville level of 1,800. The final sauce was “The Last Dab Experience,” which has a 2,693,000 Scoville rating. For reference: a jalapeño pepper sits at around 2,500-8,000 while a habanero ranges from 100,000-350,000.

The sauces are no joke. Some guests don’t make it through all 10 wings. One time, actress Aubrey Plaza snorted milk up her nose in an effort to relieve the burning. Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal had one of the most vivid reactions on the show and started drinking milk right out of the jug.

Brown was aware that the wings would be a tough challenge, and admitted that even some of the guests he brought with him doubted he could make it.

“I got a bunch of doubters. Some are in this room,” Brown said. “They think like, because I do the spicy food, they’re like, you’re not gonna make it through ‘Hot Ones.’”

Around wing No. 6, Brown asked which guests stopped at that wing. Evans responded, “Not a single athlete.”

At that point, it was clear that the reigning NBA Finals MVP had turned the interview into a competition.

After wing No. 9, Brown started asking about the water and milk that was on the table. Was he allowed to drink it? Do other contestants drink it?

Evans saw where Brown was going with it and praised the NBA star for his “dry run,” saying that they should try to push through.

Brown eventually made it through “The Last Dab” without taking a sip. As he left the room, he wanted to make sure that other guests knew who dominated “Hot Ones.”
