Disney+ and Hulu released the first trailer for Goosebumps: The Vanishing on Sunday at New York Comic Con.
In the sneak peek, David Schwimmer becomes possessed by something sinister buried deep in the earth as he attempts to unravel a 30-year old mystery, unleashing a supernatural entity on New York City.
Goosebumps: The Vanishing follows twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) as they are sent to spend the summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn with their divorced dad Anthony (Schwimmer). A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.
The eight-episode season features Schwimmer as Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery.
After his brother went missing with a group of kids in 1994, who local teens believe “were killed by ghosts,” Anthony looks into evidence from the scene, which infects him with a mysterious symbiotic organism.
Meanwhile, more kids go missing, and it’s up to Cece and Devin to stop whatever has taken over their father.
Ana Ortiz, Elijah M. Cooper, Galilea La Salvia, Francesca Noel and Stony Blyden also star.
Fans of R.L. Stine‘s popular book series will recognize elements from Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door and Welcome to Camp Nightmare, all of which served as inspiration for the sophomore season.
Developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, the showrunner is Hilary Winston. They serve as EPs with Neal H. Moritz, Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Erin O’Malley, Karl Frankenfield and James Eagan.
