There has been plenty of controversy over the officiating in the NFL over the past couple of seasons, and there are accusations that certain teams are favored over others.

The team that is most often cited as a beneficiary of favorable officiating is the Kansas City Chiefs, the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.

Former NFL wide receiver Roddy White may have had that in mind when he recently said the league “has been very favorable” to the undefeated Chiefs this season.

“They should appreciate that. … They could be 1-5,” White said, via Josina Anderson.

Plenty of people feel that certain penalties, such as holding, aren’t called against Kansas City, and it allows them to scrape by in close, important games.

The Chiefs are somehow 6-0 even though wide receivers Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, as well as starting running back Isiah Pacheco, are all out due to injury.

Like last season, the Chiefs are getting it done with defense, ranking fifth in points allowed per game.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes isn’t playing at his usual level and is tied for the NFL lead with eight interceptions, but he continues to find ways to move the chains and get first downs, as he always has.

The Chiefs reportedly are in the process of finalizing a trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and if he is spry enough, he could give them the shot in the arm they will need to go all the way.

No team has ever won three straight Super Bowl championships, and Hopkins could help the Chiefs become the first team to do so.
