Even NFL coaches have moms calling and telling them how they could be doing the job better.

They also have random people at the grocery store giving their input.

That‘s the way New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo described it. During his weekly appearance on WEEI, the first-year head coach said that there’s no shortage of people telling him how to fix things in New England.

“Everyone has solutions. It’s not just in the building. It’s outside. I can’t even go to a grocery store without, ‘Well, maybe you should change the time of practice.’ My mom calls me with solutions. People in the building – like, everyone has a solution.

So, what does Mayo’s mom recommend?

“My mom recommends just play better,” he said with a laugh. “Just coach better and play better.”

As criticism rained down on the Patriots in recent weeks, Mayo noted that a win can fix anything that ails a team. New England got a big win after their comeback against the Jets on Sunday. However, they’re still plenty of work to do.

“Everything’s not fixed,” Mayo said. “What I would say is a lot of the things that were happening over the last few weeks have been symptoms of losing, and you have to win one game before you can start to stack them together. So that’s what I meant.”
