Chiefs star’s mom turned herself in to police after allegedly stealing neighbor’s package

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is rehabbing from the LCL injury he suffered last month, but his entire focus may not be on that process, especially now that his mother has been arrested.

According to the New York Post, Marsha Kearney turned herself in to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office in Texas on Oct. 15 after being charged with theft, a misdemeanor.

Kearney was allegedly caught by a door camera stealing a package left in front of a neighbor’s doorstep on Sept. 29, the same day Rice injured his knee. What led to her identification was not only her face, but that she was wearing her “Momma-Rice” No. 4 jersey while picking up the package. According to TMZ, the package owner tried to resolve the situation through the apartment complex, Kearney, and Rice, but she was unable to get her package back.

Rice is dealing with his own legal issues. In April, he was arrested and charged with multiple offenses after he and another driver were accused of speeding, leading to a crash involving six cars. Rice eventually turned himself in and was charged with aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury.

Rice took “full responsibility” for the crash and, according to a June ESPN report, said he was looking to move forward and not let an incident like that happen again.

“I’ve learned so much from that,” Rice said. “All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me.”
