Bruins star avoids injury after high stick in face

BOSTON — One of David Pastrnak’s best friends in the NHL nearly sent the Bruins star to the dentist.

William Nylander and Pastrnak have been friends since they were teenagers playing together in Sweden, but that didn’t stop the Maple Leafs forward from high-sticking the Boston forward in the mouth.

It wasn’t a vicious hit, which is why Nylander only got a double minor penalty after video review, but it was reckless as the Leafs’ blade caught Pastrnak unexpectedly well after the puck left the area.

Pastrnak, who scored his sixth goal of the season earlier in the game, stayed on the ice for several moments causing the officials to stop the game. But he didn’t go to the locker room. Since the play was stopped on his behalf, he couldn’t stay on the ice, but he returned as soon as the puck was dropped.
