The Denver Broncos will visit the New Orleans Saints on “Thursday Night Football” to open NFL Week 7.

Though the Broncos offense has had its problems, with rookie quarterback Bo Nix adjusting to the NFL, their defense has been solid.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, star cornerback Patrick Surtain II will not play because of a concussion he suffered in a Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Among Denver’s defenders, Surtain is arguably the most valuable, and through six games he has posted five passes defended, two interceptions and one pick-six.

The 24-year-old, who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama, has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons.

New Orleans has lost four in a row after winning two to start the season, and it likely will be without quarterback Derek Carr, who has an oblique injury that forced him to miss a Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, along with injured wide receivers Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (knee).

Backup quarterback Spencer Rattler completed 22 of 40 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Bucs.

The Broncos’ biggest task defensively will be containing dual-threat running back Alvin Kamara, who has 428 rushing yards, 238 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns so far this season.
