Years ago, Frank Gore was one of the NFL’s better running backs, and he was the San Francisco 49ers’ main offensive weapon for 10 seasons, especially when they made three straight trips to the NFC Championship Game in the early 2010s.
His son, Frank Gore Jr., starred at the University of Southern Mississippi, and last season, he ran for 1,131 yards and 10 touchdowns.
He went undrafted in April, and the Buffalo Bills signed him, released him and then brought him back to be a part of their practice squad.
Per Adam Schefter, the Bills are elevating him to their active squad, making Monday night’s game against the New York Jets his first regular season NFL game.

The winner of this game will hold first place in the AFC East, which is currently held by the 3-2 Bills.
They’re coming off back-to-back losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, and a win would go a long way in increasing their chances of winning the division come January.
Today’s move comes as running back James Cook, who has had an excellent start to the start, will not play because of a toe ailment.
Ray Davis and Ty Johnson will hold down the offensive backfield, and it remains to be seen how many snaps the younger Gore, if any, will get.
Buffalo has been relying on their running game quite a bit so far this season — they rank 31st in pass attempts, even though quarterback Josh Allen has played strong football and is leading the NFL in QBR.
