Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo posed alongside the original Wicked stars, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, at the Los Angeles premiere of the upcoming movie.
While Grande is bringing Chenoweth’s Glinda to the screens, Erivo has played Menzel’s Elphaba from the musical, a theatrical staple since its 2004 Broadway debut.
At the star-studded event on Saturday, November 9, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the four performers struck a pose together, marking a special moment for Wicked fans as the movie stars shared the spotlight with the Broadway icons.
In addition to the four actress, the premiere was attended by other members of the film’s cast, including Bronwyn James, Ethan Slater, Jeff Goldblum, Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, and Michelle Yeoh.
Notably, Wicked director Jon M. Chu was absent from the event. The filmmaker behind the highly anticipated movie adaptation had to skip the premiere to be with his wife as they prepare to welcome their fifth child.
Based on the 2003 Broadway musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, Wicked tells the emotional origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West, the iconic villain from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
