Drew Barrymore shares touching story of daughters bonding over movie

Drew Barrymore revealed a touching moment on her show, sharing how her daughter and Adam Sandler’s daughter recently bonded over their parents’ iconic rom-com, 50 First Dates.

During Monday’s episode, Barrymore mentioned that her daughter and Sandler’s daughter were watching the 2004 film at her home.

“My daughter and Adam’s daughter were watching it at my house the other night, and I was like, ‘Why are you guys watching this? Don’t you get enough of me and your dad?'” Barrymore joked.

Seeing her child enjoy her work brought joy to Barrymore. “And they were just so happy, and I was like, ‘Oh, but this is so sweet and wonderful.'”

Barrymore shares daughters Olive (12) and Frankie (10) with ex Will Kopelman, while Sandler has daughters Sunny (16) and Sadie (18) with wife Jackie.

During a conversation with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment, stars of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Osment shared she watched 50 First Dates for the first time recently. Barrymore agreed it’s comforting to see her children interested in her work.

“It is!” she said. “Because your kids will — a lot of the time — reject so many things about you that when you see them embracing something, you’re like, ‘Oh, how fantastic!'”

50 First Dates, directed by Peter Segal, tells the complex love story of Henry (Sandler) and Lucy (Barrymore), who has anterograde amnesia. Barrymore previously revealed an alternate ending where Henry and Lucy part ways.

“The original ending was her saying, ‘You should go and live your life, because this is no life here,'” Barrymore shared.

“And he goes away, as he does, and he comes back and he walks into the restaurant and he just sits down and says, ‘Hi, I’m Henry.’ And the film ends.”

Ross Mathews, Barrymore’s “Drew’s News” co-anchor, appreciated the changed ending. “Honestly, can I just tell you: Thank you. Thank you for changing it.”
