Prince Andrew could be considering some risky options to protect the Royal Lodge as he fears losing the 30-room mansion royal estate.
King Charles and Andrew, who is no longer a working royal, have been in an ongoing feud over the concerned property. The monarch had plans to downgrade Andrew to Frogmore Cottage after he cut off his financial supply and security funds.
Andrew eventually produced “legitimate” source of income to continue living at the Windsor estate, despite the expensive upkeep. The Lodge is reportedly in “desperate need of repairs”.
While Andrew, who is stripped off of his royal titles and patronages following his sex scandal, remains in the Lodge, there is still lingering fear of losing the property.
Some experts believe that Andrew, who is older and may know a lot more than his nephew, may end up taking the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle approach to “sell royal secrets” for cash to support his expensive lifestyle.
However, Andrew’s biographer believes there’s no chance the royal would turn on his family like this for cash.
“There have long been rumours that Andrew might write a book, and various collaborators have been suggested, but I think it is very unlikely,” royal expert Andrew Lownie told MailOnline.
“Andrew is loyal to the institution and knows it would impact his daughters and their position within the Royal Family,” he continued.
“He also has no wish to be in the limelight. That is not to say that a broader book on the Royal Family ‘supportive’ of Andrew might not appear in the next few months.”
Lownie suggested that while he doubts Andrew himself will ever spill secrets to the public, the shamed royal has confided in his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who is “the real threat” to the royals.
This is the reason why Fergie seems to receive special attention as the royals are “keen to keep her on side”.
“It wouldn’t be the first time the Royal Family has reportedly given a person with a lot of knowledge about the family a house to remain loyal,” Lownie said.
It remains to be seen if Andrew continues to keep his silence or finally break it.
