Everyone only sees the glam of the entertainment industry, but what goes behind those lights, makeup, and drama, can be darker than one’s imagination. Recently, celebrity hairstylist Emanuel Miller who has been in the industry for years now, revealed the dark secrets of the greenroom.
His confessions included names like Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lopez, and Blake Lively. During his appearance on this week’s episode of the What It Was Like podcast, he alleged that the A-listers have been very hostile towards him and treated him like a servant.
According to Page Six, recounting his experience of working with Anne Hathaway, Miller said, “I did a film with Anne Hathaway, and that was one of my worst experiences. Anne never acknowledged me as a person. For four and a half months, she treated me like a servant.”
He further added, “I was doing [Anne’s] hair personally, just one on one, I was just doing her hair. She never said, ‘Your daughter. Do you have other children?’ or ‘How long have you been married?’ There was never any personal conversation.”
Emanuel also mentioned he has worked with stars like Cate Blanchett, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks, who, unlike Anne Hathaway, were friendly with the stylist. On the other hand, the ‘Devil Wears Prada’ star denied the allegations.
“It’s unfortunate to hear that Manny’s memory of our time together differed so dramatically from mine. I continue to wish him nothing but the best,” Anne Hathaway said in a statement.
Further, Emanuel spoke about an encounter with Jennifer Lopez, where he found her very cold. He recalled during a talk show, JLo made a surprise visit and then “suddenly there was an instant panic.”
He went on to say, “I’ve been doing a lot of talk shows in the green room with a lot of actors, and I’ve never had that experience. So I went back into the room to get my overcoat that was hanging over a chair, and when I turned around, Jennifer walked into the room,” the hairstylist said. Miller previously worked with JLo on the set of her 2005 film, ‘Monster in Law.’
However, Miller alleged that Lopez did not say a word to him, as if she didn’t recognize him at all. “Jennifer just looked at me, just gave me a blank stare, and then looked away to her bodyguards as if [to say] you were told to get this trash and clear the room. Why isn’t this room cleared?” he recalled.
Last but not least, he mentioned that while working with Blake Lively for her 2011 film ‘Hick,’ he was invited to lunch along with other crew members. He was happy to get the invitation but when he arrived, the lunch was not being served. This further led to an awkward silence and moment between Miller and Lively. Though the podcast host gave benefit of doubt to Lively, saying she might be anxious and didn’t really know anyone, but Miller mentioned that he didn’t see her speaking to anybody.
