Legendary actors Rajnikanth and Amitabh Bachchan reunited on the big screens almost after three decades in the investigation thriller film, ‘Vettiayan‘ which was released on October 10th, 2024. On the 16th day of its release, the movie collects an estimated Rs 90 lakhs.
As per a report by Sacnilk, as of October 25, the film has earned an estimated Rs 142.30 crore, with its latest collection of Rs 90 lakhs bringing the total to this impressive figure.
Vettaiyan Movie Review
In its first week, ‘Vettaiyan’ grossed Rs 122.15 crore, followed by a second-week collection of Rs 19.25 crore. The film’s performance at the box office has shown a steady decline, with Tamil occupancy rates reported at 15.88% on October 25. Morning shows had an occupancy of 12.60%, while evening shows saw an increase to 15.76%. In comparison, Telugu and Hindi occupancy rates were significantly lower at 10.12% and 6.55%, respectively.
Directed by TJ Gnanavel, ‘Vettaiyan’ begins with Athiyan receiving a complaint from a middle-school teacher, about drug abuse among students linked to marijuana stored in classrooms.
The film stars Rajinikanth as Athiyan, a senior police officer known for his aggressive methods of delivering justice, often through encounter killings and Amitabh Bachchan’s character Justice Sathyadev who is a human rights advocate who opposes Athiyan’s methods.
The film also features a talented cast that includes Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh in key roles.
Despite the star power and intriguing plot, ‘Vettaiyan’ has faced challenges at the box office, leading to speculation about its overall success.
