Rep. Pease responds to constituents’ needs, deserves reelection (Letter)

Hello, I would like to voice my support for state Representative Kelly Pease to be reelected this Nov. 5. Representative Pease is an active member of our community and invests in many community events throughout the year. I have talked to several people who contacted his office with an issue dealing with unemployment, driver license renewal, handicap plates, to name a few. All were very satisfied with the response and outcome that they received. In my opinion, Kelly Pease does a great job representing our community locally and in Boston.

I don’t really know Councilor Bridget Matthews-Kane very well, but she did come to my house and we had a conversation. I am very passionate about the new athletics field that Westfield G&E has agreed to pay for. My daughter Megan Moran is a runner in track and has broken most records over her four years at Westfield High School. Now, to understand the situation, my daughter has practiced running in the hallways of the high school, because the track is in such disrepair. It is shameful that in a community like Westfield, our children have to run in the hallways, because we can’t provide a decent track for them to practice properly.

Since Councilor Matthews-Kane was the only vote on the council against supporting the bonding for new fields that would be paid for from the G&E and not increase our property taxes, I asked her why. She did say that she thought it was just too much money without assurances that the G&E would pay future payments. I reminded her that the G&E has an elected board and if they did not live up to the agreement, they could be voted out. She stated that they were still in negotiations on the sum, and she thought a lower number was better, even though that would mean the girls softball field would not be done. We ended with her promise to send an email with her proposal on the best way to fund the fields.
