According to Vayu Purana, Lord Hanuman was born on Chaturdashi Tithi in the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month.

Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on October 30.

Hanuman Jayanti, also known as Hanuman Janmotsav, commemorates the birth of Lord Hanuman. A devoted follower of Lord Ram and Sita Mata, Lord Hanuman played a key role in aiding Lord Ram to rescue Sita from the clutches of the demon king Ravana. However, there is some confusion surrounding the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti, as it is observed twice a year.

Jyotishcharya Kameshwar Singh and Dr Kunal Kumar Jha, Head of the Astrology Department at Darbhanga Sanskrit University, recently mentioned in a media interaction that Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on October 30, 2024, this year. According to the Vayu Purana, Hanuman was born on the Chaturdashi Tithi in the Krishna Paksha of the Kartik month, when the Sun was in Swati Nakshatra and Aries Lagna on a Tuesday. This marks Hanuman’s incarnation as a manifestation of Shiva.

It is believed that Hanuman still resides on earth and continues to protect his devotees. Dr Kunal Kumar Jha further explained that Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated annually on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi. On this day, worshipping Hanuman, performing havan, and reciting stotras bring special blessings. The day symbolises devotion and faith, and offering prayers to Hanuman is said to bring happiness, prosperity, and success.

On the morning of Hanuman Jayanti, take a bath and then worship an idol or picture of Hanuman. Offer sandalwood, flowers, fruits, and incense, and recite the Hanuman Chalisa and Shloka. After this, perform a havan and aarti. Hanuman Jayanti is a significant festival symbolising devotion and reverence. According to the Vayu Purana, Lord Hanuman’s birthday should be celebrated on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi.

The Vayu Purana also mentions the uncertainty surrounding the exact date of Hanuman Jayanti, which is why it is celebrated twice a year.

It is believed that worshipping Lord Hanuman can dispel negative energies, remove obstacles, and lead to the fulfilment of desires. Born to Kesari and Anjana after they performed intense penance to Lord Vayu for a child, and as per some beliefs, Lord Hanuman is considered the eleventh incarnation of Shiva.

Earlier in the year, Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha in the Chaitra month, which fell on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
