Miley Cyrus legal team requests dismissal of Flowers lawsuit over Bruno Mars song

Miley Cyrus has recently demanded to dismiss a lawsuit over her hit single, Flowers.

The singer’s legal team lately filed its response to Tempo Music Investments’ complaint in September, which argued that an expert would need to be consulted to compare the two songs.

Miley’s attorneys reportedly rejected allegations of copyright infringement filed by Tempo for copyright holder for Bruno Mars’ song, When I Was Your Man that claims she plagiarised the track on her Flowers song.

The singer’s lawyers claimed that since Tempo represented only one of the song’s several co-writers, it “does not own exclusive rights and, as a result, lacks standing to sue for copyright infringement”.

Tempo’s complaint maintained, “It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers‘ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man’”.

The lawsuit contended that Miley’s Flowers song “duplicates numerous melodic, harmonic, and lyrical elements” from Bruno’s 2013 song, per Entertainment Weekly.

Earlier in May 2023, Miley explained how she crafted Flowers in an interview with British Vogue.

“I wrote it in a really different way,” remarked the 32-year-old.

Miley mentioned, “The chorus was originally: ‘I can buy myself flowers, write my name in the sand, but I can’t love me better than you can.’”

“It used to be more, like, 1950s. The saddest song. Like: ‘Sure, I can be my own lover, but you’re so much better,’” she added.
